Sea Around Us - Indian Ocean
School of Biological Sciences
University of Western Australia (UWA)

Shannon's early life experiences, ranging from many Rottnest Island trip as a little child with a craypot as a bed to sleep on, to live-aboard sailing adventures in South East Asia, fostered a deep connection with the ocean. This led her to pursue a deeper understanding of her passion by commencing a marine biology degree at the University of Western Australia starting in 2019. Upon discovering the topic of fisheries science, she felt that the field combined her passion for the ocean and her desire to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Shortly afterwards, Shannon began volunteering with the Sea Around Us - Indian Ocean as a research assistant.
