I come from Germany, where I obtained my BSc in Biology from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and my MSc degree in Marine Ecosystem and Fisheries Science from the University of Hamburg. Thereafter I moved to Australia where I obtained my PhD at the University of Western Australia under the supervision of Prof Dirk Zeller, director of the Sea Around Us – Indian Ocean, and Prof Jessica Meeuwig, Wen Family Chair in Conservation and director of the Marine Futures Lab. I have a strong interest in the fisheries, management and governance of large pelagic species in the Indian Ocean and around the world and the topic of my thesis research was “Below the surface: data-driven solutions for a deeper insight into global large pelagic fisheries.” Furthermore, I am increasingly driven to understand the role that humans play in marine and terrestrial ecosystems and am passionate about ecosystem conservation, research, management, and monitoring. I now work fulltime as Managing Senior Scientist at Oceanwise Australia, where I oversee projects, conduct comprehensive data collection, management and spatio-temporal analyses for effective environmental management and monitoring.
