School of Biological Sciences
University of Western Australia (UWA)
Erika is in the final year of her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and Zoology at the University of Western Australia. Her interest in marine science began through early volunteer work with the Philippine Marine Mammal Stranding Network, where she assisted in response efforts for stranded cetaceans. Since then, she has developed a strong focus on fisheries science, quantitative ecological analysis, and applied marine conservation. Erika has gained hands-on experience in field sampling techniques (including BRUVs, dive transects, and water quality profiling), species identification, and the use of statistical tools (R, Python) and spatial analysis software (ArcGIS) to interpret marine datasets. She is currently a volunteer with the Sea Around Us – Indian Ocean, contributing to a project exploring data for Australia’s Shark Control Programs.
