Sea Around Us - Indian Ocean
School of Biological Sciences
University of Western Australia (UWA)
Cody grew up a short distance from the beaches of Rockingham, south of Perth, and enjoyed growing up with plenty of ocean influences including trips to the beach, Penguin Island, and the Aquarium of Western Australia. The exposure to the ocean as an avid surfer and snorkeler in his early twenties led him to study Marine Science and Science Communication at UWA in 2018. During his degree he completed a work placement at the UWA Oceans Institute and volunteered in STEM outreach programs. Since graduating in 2023, his passion for the ocean has led him to volunteer for a little penguin monitoring survey run by WAMSI, beach clean-ups, dune rehabilitation programs, and the seagrass restoration program Seeds for Snapper run by OzFish. Before joining the Sea Around Us - Indian Ocean, Cody worked for the WA Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and is also a freelance writer for online science news publication Particle, run by Scitech. Cody now works on updating fisheries catch reconstructions for Australia and East African countries as part of the Sea Around Us - Indian Ocean.
