MSc title: Reconstructing domestic and foreign fishing catch in a tropical fishery: the
case of Kenya (2011-2017)

Amy McAlpine recently completed her Master of Science at the Sea Around Us – IO research initiative at the University of Western Australia. As a marine scientist, Amy’s interests lie in fisheries science and its intersection with marine conservation and sustainable livelihoods. She has a strong interest in marine conservation and small-scale fisheries throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Amy’s Masters research focused on the marine fisheries of the East African country Kenya. This research aimed to improve the quality of marine fisheries statistics in Kenya by reconstructing reported and unreported catches in order to provide a more accurate historical baseline. In doing so, Amy’s research aims to facilitate both the effective management of Kenya’s marine fisheries and the monitoring of long-term changes in Kenya’s marine ecosystems.
